Vietti Barbera d'Alba 'Scarrone' Vigna Vecchia 2016

Vietti's Barbera d'Alba is made from the grapes coming from the oldest portion of the single vineyard Scarrone. Naturally low yield from the old vines even lowered with meticulous selection of perfectionist Vietti providing concentrated juice. Fermented in steel tanks and aged 18 months in big oak cask, barriques and steel tanks.

Wine is Ruby-red colour and full-bodied. Floral and fruity aromas of concentrated berries and tar with hints of blackberry. Refreshing acidity, rich and soft tannins, finesse, excellent balance, great complexity, integration and a long lingering finish. A classic vintage.

Brambleberries, black cherries, tobacco, hot stones and vanilla. The palate is packed full of concentration, edging out of finely intertwined, forest-floor nuances into dark fruit, before pinpoint acidity carries this long through the finish. All about depth and finesse. Drink now or hold.

" This wine is made from the oldest vines—most of which were planted 100 years ago—in the Scarrone vineyard. The 2016 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone is an outstanding wine in my estimation. I love the depth and sheer dimension that it puts so effortlessly on display. You get powerfully concentrated black fruit that ultimately finds smooth balance against the fresh acidity and soft tannins of the grape. Luca Currado tells me it was impossible to make a bad wine in the classic 2016 vintage. He must be right." —by Monica Larner

Concentrated and fluid at once, this red features a combination of sweet plum, blackberry, dark chocolate and spice flavors, all backed by vibrant acidity and refined tannins, allowing the finish to build in a relaxed, lilting manner. Shows excellent harmony and complexity. Best from 2020 through 2030. 358 cases made
