Shafer Vineyards One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon 2015

Shafer's One Point Five Cabernet Sauvignon comes from one of the best locations in the Napa Valley, Stags Leap District, excluding the Hillside which goes to Shafer Vineyards Hill Side Select.

One Point Five is an elegant, silky Cabernet Sauvignon with soft tannins and abundant fruit that is approachable when young, yet capable of aging gracefully. This wine reflects the climate and soils of our Stags Leap District vineyard sites and Shafer’s commitment to meticulous, sustainable farming and quality winemaking.

"From the moment you pull the cork on this vintage rich, tantalizing aromas fill the air with blackberry, black licorice, spice, rose petal, and cinnamon, leading to a lush, full-bodied wine offering juicy flavors of black and red plum, summer berries, pie crust, baked rhubarb, cinnamon, and warm briar jam in a seamless package of ripe, welcoming tannins and a long, vibrant finish.” Shafer winemaker Elias Fernandez

This shows nice concentration on the nose in terms of ash and blackcurrant but also some pretty floral elements with violets and jasmine. Full-bodied with a strong entrée of black fruit but with driven acidity, muscular tannins and a long finish. A blend of 95% cabernet sauvignon, 3% merlot, 1% malbec and 1% petit verdot.

The 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is a fabulous example of the year at its best. Super-ripe red cherry, pomegranate, mint, rose petal and spice infuse this voluptuous, racy Cabernet Sauvignon. Readers looking for a wine to drink with minimal cellaring will find much to admire in this sexy, racy Cabernet. Even with all of its up-front fruit, the 2015 has quite a bit of depth and tannin to support at least a handful of years of fine drinking

Based largely on Cabernet Sauvignon (there’s 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec), the 2015 One-Point Five is another full-bodied, powerful yet elegant wine from this estate. Giving up rocking notes of crème de cassis, graphite, smoke tobacco, and licorice, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, tons of fruit and texture, remarkable purity, and a great finish. It’s a quintessential Napa Cabernet that’s going to put a smile on your face over the coming 15 years or more.

A blend of 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 7% Merlot and 3% Malbec, the deep garnet-purple colored 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five Stags Leap has an earthy/meaty nose, featuring notions of tar and charcuterie over crème de cassis and baked plums plus a hint of licorice. Very big, full-bodied and packed with black fruit preserves in the mouth, it has a chewy backbone and lively lift to the earthy/savory finish.
