Roagna Paje Barbaresco DOCG Italy 2013

A single vineyard Barbaresco from one of the most legendary producers of Piemonte. Roagna's 1,8 hectares Pajé is one of the historic vineyards of the village of Barbaresco with a unique soil and microclimate. Roagna makes wine with traditional methods. Hand harvested grapes are fermented in large wooden casks with natural yeast and aged for 5 years again in neutral large oak casks. Wines are natural, no pesticides, herbicides or fertilizers are used, minimal sulfur usage, no fining or filtration. Purist expression of Barbaresco's tradition and terroir.

The wine is complex, has ripe and tightly knit tannins and silky soft texture. Beautiful flavours and aromas of red cherries, floral notes, cedar, tobacco, sweet spices.

The 2013 Barbaresco Pajè will leave readers weak at the knees with its stunning aromatics. Spicebox, cedar, tobacco, licorice and menthol speak to the essence of Pajè. A wine of depth and pedigree, the 2013 has a lot to offer. Orange peel, cinnamon, rose petal and mint add the closing shades of nuance in a deceptively medium-bodied Barbaresco that has plenty of backing structure and tannic clout to age well for many years to come.

Rich, with developing cherry, licorice, green olive and sandalwood notes up front. Then the dense tannins take over. A lingering hint of spice remains as this stretches out on the finish. Best from 2021 through 2038.
