Familia Nin Ortiz Planetes de Nin 2016 Priorat

Planetes comes from the east-facing vineyard Finca Les Planetes just opposite of the village Porreira. Garnacha (Grenache) and Cariñena growing in these slate soils are between 10 and more than 80 years old. 30% of the vines are destemmed, the rest are spontaneously fermented as whole grapes and matured both in the vat and in the amphora.

This wine is the signature wine of the Family Nin Ortiz. It is fresh and juicy with red fruits like cherries and raspberries are combined with violet notes and then marzipan and chocolate layers, hints of woody, juniper and wet stone minerality follows. Planetes 2016 is fresh and playful with serious depth, structure and flavour intensity. One of the best vintages so far from Nin Ortiz family.

A 60/40 blend of Garnacha and Cariñena from the vineyard that names the wine, the 2016 Planetes de Nin saw a similar vinification and aging as the 2017 I tasted next to it, so the differences found were only due to the vintage and the moment of harvest. This is a fresher vintage, with tantalizing aromas that are subtle and elegant, with notes of violets and red cherries, nuanced and ever-changing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied and nicely textured, with very fine tannins and fine chalky minerality. 9,108 bottles were filled in April 2017.— by  Luis  Gutiérrez
