Escarpment, Pahi, Martinborough, New Zealand 2015

Escarpment Pahi is one of the four wines of Insight Series which was created by Larry McKenna with the desire to craft a Pinot Noir that was purely dedicated to expressing the unique vineyard characteristics, known as terroir, of the Martinborough Terraces.

This wine has a particular style; soft, ripe, pure fruit expressions in an exceedingly New World Pinot Noir.

Made with traditional methods like in Burgundy. Fermented using indigenous yeasts in traditional wood cuvees, matured 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques and fined using egg whites to protect fruity flavours and softening the mouthfeel and texture. Very limited, highly regarded beautiful wine.

Vibrant, with blood orange and plum flavors that are juicy and expressive. Mineral and herb notes linger in the background. Dense, muscular tannins provide the framework. Drink now through 2027. 300 cases made.

19+ points, Raymond Chan
The palate has a concentrated core with fine-grained, flowery tannin structure and refined acidity. Floral elements unfold and carry through to an aromatic, lingering finish of finesse. This is an elegantly concentrated, refined Pinot Noir with ripe black fruits, florals, liquorice and spice notes, integrated with whole bunch detail and flowery structure.
