Escarpment, Kupe, Martinborough, New Zealand 2015

Kupe is the flagship wine of the Escarpment estate and the inspiration of the Insight Series which was created by Larry McKenna with the desire to craft a Pinot Noir that was purely dedicated to expressing the unique vineyard characteristics, known as terroir, of the Martinborough Terraces.

Made with traditional methods like in Burgundy. Fermented using indigenous yeasts in traditional wood cuvees, matured 18 months in 30% new French oak barriques and fined using egg whites to protect fruity flavours and softening the mouth feel and texture.

Very limited, highly regarded beautiful wines.

96 Points, Wine Spectator
This powerful wine is tightly wound yet very expressive, with plenty of torque to the plum and blood orange flavors at the core, slowly revealing details of cedar, tobacco, cumin seed, rosemary and black tea. Everything sings in harmony on the long finish. Drink now through 2027. 500 cases made.
19,5 / 20 points, Raymond Chan
This is a succulently rich and vibrant, black-fruited Pinot Noir with layers of spice, oak, dark herbs and whole cluster complexities on a very fine-grained, fresh palate.
