Escarpment, Kiwa, Martinborough, New Zealand 2015

Kiwa is one of the four wines of Insight Series which was created by Larry McKenna with the desire to craft a Pinot Noir that was purely dedicated to expressing the unique vineyard characteristics, known as terroir, of the Martinborough Terraces. This is an outstanding example of classic Pinot Noir, savoury, complex, spicy wine.

Made with traditional methods like in Burgundy. Fermented using indigenous yeasts in traditional wood cuvees, matured 18 months in 40% new French oak barriques and fined using egg whites to protect fruity flavours and softening the mouthfeel and texture.

Very limited, highly regarded beautiful wines.

Dusty white pepper and rose petal notes are aromatic, leaping out of the glass to complement the dense core of mineral-laced dark fruit flavours, with plenty of anise and nutmeg details. The intensity gains momentum on the finish, which is expressive and generous. Drink now through 2027. 300 cases made.

"...this is a complex, savoury black-fruited Pinot Noir with earth, whole bunch and herbal complexities on a well-structured and textural palate."
