Domaine Ostertag Fronholz Riesling Alsace 2015

Located on the top and the southwest slopes of the hill of Epfig, the Fronholz vineyard gives wines with a marked minerality, firm acidity, and elegant aromas that can be rather discreet in their youth. The estate’s four hectares Fronholz vineyard is divided among Riesling 1 ha, and other three varieties.

André Ostertag is trained in Burgundy and an environmentalist making wines in organic and biodynamic principles. His wines are pure, reflecting the character of its grapes, terroir and the vintage. They are unique!

From the top of the hill and grown on sand and quartz, the 2015 Fronholz Riesling opens with a fascinatingly clear, precise, fresh and stony/mineral bouquet with lemon and floral aromas. Picked on September 22, this is a full-bodied, rich, intense and elegant but cool Riesling with juicy tropical fruit flavor, a silky texture and fine tannins in the long, elegant, sensual and very aromatic finish. This is a remarkably good Riesling on the Premier Cru level.
