Comando G La Bruja de Rozas 2017

Comando G wines are some of the most exciting wines made in Spain. Dedicated to Garnacha (Grenache), hence the name G for Grenache, friends Daniel Lando and Fernando Garcia are inspired by the style of iconic Chateau Rayas of Chateauneuf du Pape, elegant, red-fruited wines instead of heavy, high alcohol wines.

La Bruja de Rozas is made from 30 to 80-year-old vineyards, coming from three estates at 900 meters of altitude located in an area called Las Rozas de Puerto Real in the Sierra de Gredos mountain range just a couple of hours outside Madrid.

Each plot was separately harvested and vinified. Fermentation and maceration took place in wooden vats, with indigenous yeasts and gentle macerations. After blending the wine is aged for 9 months in wooden vats.

Aerate the wine 30 minutes before drinking.

I tasted the 2017 La Bruja de Rozas from one of the most challenging vintages of recent times. The result is spectacular, but volumes are much lower. In this warmer and riper year, they also used a portion of the must without skins or stems to try to achieve a lighter wine with more freshness. It has the Rozas floral character, with a little more tannin, as I often see with warmer vintages. 35,000 bottles were produced in this vintage affected by hail, which also greatly affected this village. –by Luis Gutiérez
