Chateau Goubau, Cotes de Castillon, Bordeaux 2014

Chateau Goubau, an under-the-radar château was bought by Thienpont family, who also owns iconic Le Pin and L’If, in 2015.  Château Goubau is a certified organic vineyard – planted with 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. An impressive wine with ripe, dark berry fruits and herbal notes, and a very long finish. It will be exciting to see how the wine will change in Thienponts' hands but sure it will not be as affordable as these last vintages. Produced less than 1,000 cases

"Masses of ripe fruit on the nose. Good confident scent. Quite a bargain for fairly early drinking. Still masses of tannin. Seriously ambitious wine for the price. I tasted this before realising this is the property bought by the Thienponts of Le Pin! This wine was made by the previous Belgian owners but what a steal! Maybe just a tad rustic and tannic but there is lots stuffed in here. Amaze your friends...Very good value"
